There is a fine tube that runs from the middle ear to the back of the throat called the ‘eustachian tube’ and this becomes blocked by this sticky fluid, or mucus. When my patients have this symptom it is usually caused by a hair. But whenever there is a difference in ear pressure, the tube opens up to release the inbuilt pressure. Even excess accumulation of wax inside the ear is one of the causes of ear pressure that can lead to crackling sounds, when chewing or yawning. What is this buzzing/crackling sound I hear at the back of my brain sometimes? My symptoms mostly include a popping when I burp or yawn and a constant clicking at night when I swallow. It makes it very difficult to speak and have a conversation but does not interfere with my hearing at all. The ent that diagnosed the palatal myoclonus wants to put me on clonazapam to get rid of the remaining clicking in my left ear but I am very apprehensive.

With my ears not getting any better, my GP prescribed me a different steroid nasal spray, which did not work. Earlier this week my autophony was coming back quite intensely and not related to exercise so I’m become really constantly anxious whenever I swallow incase it comes back. That Crackling Sound In My Ear?
It’s like a flex a muscle in my head and I can hear what sounds like air getting pushed through my ears. I can do something similar, but I can create a clicking noise. For me it similar to the sound I hear when yawning. Can you bend your thumb over the back of your hand until the leading edge is past the forefinger knuckle? I have evidence that people who can roll their tongue cannot do this. JAW CRACKING I have a feeling of tightness in my jaw on both sides. Ehh, is it the same thing when I can make that popping sound happen whenever I want? But it’s the same feeling that I get when the ears pop naturally. After surgeries in each ear to open up the attics in my ear and remove the two masses, my ear function is back to normal. I only get it in my left ear and I realize it’s probably more related to my jaw maybe being a bit dislocated or something rather than an ear issue, but man is it annoying when you start noticing it. You can feel TMJ in your jaw – it’s more of a popping. Not sure if this is the same thing but if I yarn too wide something in the back of my throat ‘clicks’ and it’s painfully to close my mouth.
