I have been dealing with a loud crackling sound mainly in my left ear for the last two years. It all started during a cold in Sep of 2010. I went to my doctor who diagnosed me with otitis media and pre. Suddenly, all the sound from his left side seemed muffled and faint. I struggled to catch what people were saying and the hissing in my left ear was a constant distraction. ‘If you are worried you have been misdiagnosed, you can go to A&E and be referred to a hospital ENT specialist. Well now I have a swooshing heartbeat noise in my left ear and static ringing noise in my right. Well it did help with the pain, but still have crackles and noise and sound funny. As background, I had crackling and off balance feelings for many years (still do), that finally led to incredible ear fullness over the last year or so before I had the tube put in. When I was leaving my ENT’s office after I had them placed, I heard a loud pop and it all went downhill from there, I knew from the beginning (right after placement) that there was a problem, but I waited 3 months to go back (stupid I know).
About 2 monthes ago i had a crackling when i swallow begin in my ear. Since i saw that Dr i now have a really bad ringing in my ears. I found that the louder conversations in the room got the more static and hissing i heard in my left ear only. it has been 6 weeks now and i went to see a general dr to ask for a solution he sent me off with a allergy pill and a script for doxy hy and im no better. A few more doctor visits resulted in me taking/trying various OTC nasal sprays and decongestants, all of which did not help and some made the crackling sound louder, or it seemed. Two years ago I contracted a middle ear infection from a common cold, and since then have had a number of complications which have not been adequately explained or treated by the numerous ENTs and specialists I have consulted since.
